3/20/2023 0 Comments Battlemaster battletech![]() ![]() Pretty underwhelming (without XL engine tech, like in Vanilla). When comparing to lighter mechs of the same speed, the engine takes up ALL the extra tonnage, so it has the same 42.5 tons for weapons + armor as the Marauder, Orion, Victor, & Zeus (it can hold a bit more armor, meaning fewer weapons than those smaller mechs). Even the 80-ton Awesome has an extra 12 tons for weapons (actually 13 if both at max armor since the BM holds 1 extra ton). The 85-ton Stalker, for example, has an extra 15 tons for weapons over the BM, for the cost of walking 3 instead of 4 hexes. Especially for larger mechs in this game, I've never found the extra speed worth it (like on the Banshee* or Cyclops or Battlemaster). That's actually the one niche the BLR shines in and that is still valid in endgame, preferably with an SLDF-BLR though.Įxactly. It's a lot more durable than a RVN, not unbearably slow, and can still mount some respectable short range weaponry alongside it. These variants offer better alpha strike damage than the ranged generalists, but you ARE stuck with the short range.īut the best use for the BLR would probably be as a replacement for your RVN if you want to stick with the ECM strategy: look for an ECM suite in stores (they appear in normal stores on some of the more civilized planets just often enough), then use the BLR as your bubble anchor. Medium-Laser-cheese might get old, but doesn't go bad, after all. Or just fill the whole thing with M-Lasers++/+ and the SRM-6++. Your LB 20-X is a pretty decent weapon, add an SRM-6++ (+4dmg) and one or two M-Lasers++ (+10dmg) and you're set. The LB 2-X version has the option for an additional M-Laser if you're fine with running a bit more hot, and slightly better damage but is more prone to sand-papering opponent's armour.Īlternatively, you stick with short range builds. The most useful generalist layout with easily obtained components would be a UAC/5 or dual LB 2-X, an LRM-10++ (+2Dmg) and a Large Laser+++ (+10Dmg/+3Acc) - good range and sustainable alpha attacks for multiple turns. Still, the BLR's weapon loadout will always look rather underwhelming. Though technically you can argue that 85 tons is peak for 4-move mechs if you keep rear armour constant non-maxed. Without XL engines, Mechs in the move-4 category beyond 65 tons really only gain armour with extra weight, not loadout. The problem with the BLR is that it's too heavy for its speed. ![]()
